An outdated kitchen gets a major makeover.

Brigitte and Jeff moved into their Vanier home in 2015. The 40 year old home had not been remodeled in any way, and there was a lot of work for the couple to do. With some DIY gusto, Brigitte and Jeff took on a lot of work themselves, but they didn’t want to cut corners on the kitchen.

“We knew the kitchen was going to make the biggest difference for us,” explained Brigitte. “The original kitchen was tiny, if Jeff and I were in the kitchen together we were always bumping elbows and we were cut off from the dining area on the other side. It was embarrassing to host dinners in the carpeted dining room,” laughed Brigitte. “Jeff had the vision for the space that we were able to create with David’s help.”

Brigitte and Jeff heard about Upland Builds from a friend. “David was a friend-of-a-friend, a trusted referral made it easy for us. We were home most of the time, but not always, so we gave David a key so that he could come and go as he needed too,” said Brigitte. “He understood what we wanted to do and he was easy to communicate with. My hands were full with the baby, so Jeff worked with David through the many little decisions that came up as the work unfolded and adjust course if we needed to. There were a lot of delays for products because of Covid, so we had to stay flexible.”

Brigitte now has room to prep her curries and they can both host with pride and have four people working the counters to whip up a meal. “It’s amazing, we’re so proud of our house, and we love hosting friends now. The long lines change the feeling of the house so dramatically, there’s a real sense of Feng Shui to our home now. Our 16-month-old son also loves to have an island to run around.”
